In this course, participants will learn how to identify and respond to psychological, emotional, social, cultural, and spiritual domains of care and recognize how these factors impact a patient and family’s illness and dying experience. Concepts of total pain, suffering, hope, grief, and meaning will be explored. Social determinants of health and trauma-informed care will be discussed. Psychosocial interventions that can be effective when working with someone affected by serious illness or at the end of life will be presented. Tools to care for the caregiver will be introduced.
